Ellie Pinnells, Director, Dispute Resolution, Fieldfisher

I advise clients on a wide range of commercial disputes including breach of contract and negligence claims, construction disputes and competition follow-on damages claims.

I was brought up and educated in Mainz, Germany and am bilingual (English, German) and proficient in French. Much of my work has a cross-border aspect, with a particular focus on companies with a German connection.

Recent examples of my work include: pursuing pan-European truck cartel follow on damages claim for many global corporates; advising a UK funder on investment in claims in Germany; defending an engineering and construction dispute for a German contractor in the renewable sector; and acting for both sides on urgent and non-urgent injunctions. Some of my work crosses over into employment litigation, including bringing equal pay actions for large multi-claimant groups.

Reported cases include: Exit Consents: Assenagon Asset Management S.A. v Anglo Irish Bank [2012] EWHC 2090; Cost-capping application (appeal): Eli Lilly & Company Limited v James, [2009] EWHC 198; and Appeal from competition appeal tribunal: National Grid plc v Gas and Electricity Markets Authority [2010] EWCA Civ 114.

I co-authored a practitioner’s text book in German aimed at contract and project managers in large engineering projects: Pinnells & Pinnells, Risikomanagement in Internationalen Projekten, Gabler Verlag 2007.

My speaking engagements have included seminars on contract and claims management for large German engineering corporates. I am also a regular co-speaker at the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing clarinet in orchestras and singing in choirs. Whenever I can, I combine my interests in music and languages with travelling.
