I am head of Fieldfisher's Construction and Projects team and have over 10 years' experience advising some of the UK's largest suppliers and purchasers on contentious and non-contentious matters on construction, engineering and facilities management projects.
I specialise in acting for main contractors and employers on disputes and projects across the full range of standard form and bespoke contracts. I have extensive experience of adjudication on a wide range of disputes from defects claims, payment notices and final account disputes to the performance of renewable energy plants.
I am also experienced in leading high value litigation in the Technology and Construction Court, arbitration and all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution and is an advocate of structured mediation to resolve complex construction disputes.
My non-contentious experience includes particular specialism in some of the UK's highest value and most complex infrastructure projects.
I have gained considerable commercial benefit from time spent seconded in-house to contractor clients which allows me to understand an instruction from the client's perspective.
I am recognised by the legal directories as "a very dynamic young lawyer who is commercially minded and astute." (Legal 500 UK 2019), for an "encyclopaedic knowledge of the law.” (Legal 500 UK 2019) and for "building an excellent reputation for his contentious and transactional work" (Legal 500 UK 2019).
"[Dan] is technically able and commercially focused. If I could give him all my work I would." - Chambers UK 2018
"Dan Preston has a growing supplier-side practice acting in both disputes and transactional matters for some high-profile domestic clients. One client states that he "has a very clear manner and approach and knows construction contracts exceptionally well." - Chambers UK 2017
"Dan is the gold standard in terms of external legal support" - Client Choice 2017
I have worked on some of the UK's largest domestic disputes in construction, highways, rail and transport and renewable energy sectors.
My recent transactional experience includes advising on the construction aspects on nuclear power plants and some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects including Crossrail, HS2, IFA2 and the Programme and Project Partners initiative at Sellafield.
I contribute regularly to industry publications including Construction Manager and the JCT Newsletter.
Having played semi-professional football before my legal career, in my spare time I still enjoy watching and playing football (although only at a social level). I am a keen but pretty poor golfer and spend the rest of my time with my wife and young family.
