I am a partner in Fieldfisher's leading Privacy, Security and Information law group with over 20 years' experience in advising clients across different sectors and ranging from start-ups to multinationals. Many of my clients are in financial services.
I have a particular focus on cloud computing, the “internet of things”, and big data. Outside of privacy, I also advise clients in related areas such as intellectual property and image rights, technology acquisitions, new media and publishing, and general commercial and contractual matters.
My data protection expertise includes international compliance projects, privacy impact assessments, cross border data flows, data breach response and disputes around subject access. I enjoy working closely with clients to devise pragmatic solutions to their compliance needs, often international in scope.
Prior to becoming a solicitor, I worked for five years as a software engineer at Logica (now CGI), a major independent UK software house, where I was engaged in designing, programming and testing complex software applications (primarily in an UNIX/C environment).
I have written a book on the law of cloud computing: Cloud Computing: A Practical Introduction to the Legal Issues, the second edition of which was published by BSI in April 2015. I also helped produce the BSI Group's 2014 "Proposed EU Data Protection Regulation Factsheet for Business."
More generally, I lecture and write regularly on data protection and cloud.
