James Lappin, Partner, Dispute Resolution

James Lappin, Partner, Dispute Resolution, Fieldfisher

I am a leading expert in Dispute Resolution with over 16 years' experience advising a wealth of corporates, large PLCs and individuals from a range of sectors.

I have a broad experience in commercial disputes, domestically and internationally.  My key expertise is in prosecuting professional negligence claims and acted for the claimant, E.Surv, in the leading Court of Appeal case of Goldsmith Williams Solicitors v E.Surv Limited [2015] EWCA Civ 1147.

For several years now, I have been identified as a notable practitioner in Chambers and Partners and described as a "obvious standout lawyer who offers excellent commercial advice in high-stakes disputes" with the ability to "see the bigger commercial picture and who also never misses the important details" who is "highly thorough, pragmatic and commercially focused". This year I was also ranked as a leading individual by Legal 500 who said according to clients I am both thorough and approachable, and provide an exemplary service' as well as recognising the breath of my experience He advises corporate clients and private individuals on matters such as professional negligence claims and shareholder disputes. Legal 500 also described James as a "driven and focused commercial litigator who is able to rapidly build a rapport with clients."

In my spare time I can be found enjoying a variety of sports. I am proud to have maintained a single figure golf handicap since my mid-teens and to have completed the Snowdonia Marathon in 3 hours 31 minutes. I am married to Kathryn and Arthur's arrival in 2016 may well push the handicap into double figures.

Being a local lad, I have held a season ticket for Manchester United since around 1987.
