Murray Keir, Associate, Pensions

I am an associate in the Pensions department, providing assistance in a range of pensions law matters to both sponsoring employers of pension schemes and their trustees.
I advise on the administration of pension schemes, including preparing scheme documentation and advising on the application of new and existing legislation.
I have experience in preparing consolidating and updating trust deeds and rules for defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes. I also have particular experience in advising employers and trustees on equal treatment matters within a pensions context, including the application of the judgment in Barber and the preparation of age discrimination and equal treatment audit reports.
I have also been involved in providing advice in contentious circumstances where there has been problems caused by amendments to pension scheme governing documents. In addition, I have assisted trustees with responses to internal disputes and with claims that have been made to the Pensions Ombudsman.
I also provide support on corporate and employment transactional matters and I have prepared marketing updates for the department.
I am a member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers and I am ranked in Chambers as being an Associate to Watch, with clients noting my ability to "break down jargon and explain things in layman's terms".
