Christopher Hobson, Solicitor, Financial Markets and Products, Fieldfisher

I am a financial regulatory lawyer in the Financial Markets & Products Group in Fieldfisher's London office.

I advise a range of financial institutions including banks, broker-dealers and asset managers on EU and UK financial regulation issues. My particular areas of focus include:

  • authorisation and perimeter issues;
  • market infrastructure;
  • MiFID II and MiFIR;
  • CRD IV; and
  • Corporate governance issues including SMCR.

My financial regulation experience includes advising on a number of high-profile matters including in respect of regulatory change projects, innovative business models and responses to market events, including Brexit. I have advised, for instance, major financial institutions on bank resolution and recapitalisation. I have also acted on legislative drafting mandates including in respect of regulatory perimeter issues and prudential rules for credit institutions.

Prior to joining Fieldfisher I worked in-house at a global investment bank in the strategy and structure team. My particular focus in that role was on preparing that institution for Brexit. Before this, I was an associate at a large US firm focusing on financial regulation.
