Sarah Ellson, Partner, Public Regulatory

Sarah Ellson, Partner, Public Regulatory, Fieldfisher

I am a recognised expert in public and regulatory law and I head the firm's market leading public and regulatory law team.

I take a particular interest in health and social care and bioscience regulation, but I also work in education, surveying, sport, security and psychotherapy.  As well as overseeing the investigation of complaints and attending disciplinary hearings as an advocate or legal adviser to Panels, I advise on audit, policy and strategy matters in the design and implementation of regulatory frameworks.

My work involves working with start-up regulators as well as obtaining new legislation and interpreting it for established clients.  I regularly advise on judicial review cases and appeals.  I very much enjoy the work I do training and mentoring those involved in regulation. I have had personal involvement, often through our work with the General Medical Council, in a number of leading cases in this field.

Legal 500 2015 describes me as "calm and measured" who has "an encyclopaedic knowledge of healthcare law and is always looking for the most practical and cost-effective solutions for her clients".

Chambers UK 2016 states I am "very well respected" and clients remark that “she's fantastic, both accessible and concise. She absolutely understands what we need and provides not only advice but realistic solutions to problems.”

In addition I regularly speak at specialist conferences including the CLT Conference on the Regulation of Healthcare Professionals 2013; the Qatar International Conference on Stem Cell Science and Policy 2012 and the LexisNexis Conference 2012 on the Regulation of Social Care. I am also a Committee member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers and attend events of the international Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation.

In my spare time you will find me in the mountains, climbing or walking or on our smallholding in the Peak District.
