Sheena Sheikh Brown, Senior Associate, IP and Technology, Protection and Enforcement, Fieldfisher

I am a specialist intellectual property lawyer with experience advising international and domestic clients in the protection and enforcement of their intellectual property rights. My clients range from fashion houses and retailers, a leading provider of orthodontic products, media production companies, household telecommunication and technology brands, a leading online search engine and software providers. Prior to specialising as an intellectual property lawyer, I represented clients in complex multi-jurisdictional commercial litigation and arbitrations while in the London office of a large US firm where I trained and qualified.

I have a particular focus in acting for clients in intellectual property (and related contractual) disputes concerned with design rights, trade marks, passing off, copyright and confidential information.

I fully understand that my role is primarily to resolve disputes and I will work hard to avoid escalation where possible. Inevitably sometimes formal action is appropriate or unavoidable and I have significant experience litigating in the English High Court in intellectual property disputes including in acting for the well-known fashion brand Karen Millen in its defence and counterclaim in the High Court concerning trade mark infringement (both UK and international) and breach of contract. In the Court of Appeal I have been the lead assistant in a design dispute and also acted in a dispute concerning the use of the image of the cartoon character Betty Boop. I also have experience in registry actions before the UK intellectual Property Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office as well as dealing with domain name disputes in WIPO and Nominet actions.

I also advise clients on non-contentious matters including protection strategies for their trade mark portfolios and commercial contracts.

I have proactively built my practice as a specialist intellectual property lawyer. I gained an Oxford Diploma in Intellectual Property in 2012 and in 2016 Managing IP listed me as a 'Rising Star'.

I contribute regularly to Fieldfisher's SnIPpets blog covering interesting developments in intellectual property law - a link to which can be found here

I have also contributed to the World Trademark Review and Lexology.

My speaking engagements include presentations to MBE Cambridge students on customs actions, the Music Publishers Association on copyright law and at Fieldfisher's annual IP Crammer sessions.

I speak fluent Hindi.

In my spare time I enjoy walking with my family, taking piano lessons, travelling and discovering new restaurants.
