Edward Bowie, Solicitor, Public Law and Regulatory

Edward Bowie, Solicitor, Public Law and Regulatory, Fieldfisher

I am a Solicitor (New Zealand Qualified) in the Public Law and Regulatory Group, based in London. I advise regulators, public bodies and businesses on how to traverse the increasingly regulated and sensitive landscapes in which they operate.  My work often involves providing advice on the proper exercise of public law powers and assisting public and private sector clients to engage in regulatory investigations.  I also advise on judicial review proceedings and work alongside clients to develop law reform and government relations strategies, particularly with those operating in – or regulating – heavily controlled sectors.

Having previously worked in the public and regulatory team of a large New Zealand law firm, and in the office of a senior New Zealand Cabinet Minister, I have a detailed understanding of Government and regulatory processes.  I enjoy combining this background with public law principles to guide clients through public law, policy and regulatory issues – and delivering practical solutions that have clients' real-world policy environment front-of mind.  I have particular experience in the regulatory processes of the energy, aviation, water, broadcasting and telecommunications sectors, having acted for regulated entities, regulators, Ministers and local/central government bodies.

I gained my law degree from the University of Otago alongside my Bachelor of Arts (specialising in history and politics).  I also have a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Government Administration from the London School of Economics.
