EU trade expert and former legal adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron joins Fieldfisher
European law firm Fieldfisher has hired Andrew Hood, EU trade expert and former legal adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron, from Dechert. He joins the firm's Regulatory Team as a partner.
Andrew specialises in UK and EU regulatory and trade law and advises businesses in a range of sectors including automotive, aerospace, clothing, financial services, food and drink, publishing and travel, as well as Government and NGOs.
He will also join Fieldfisher's Brexit Taskforce advising clients on the likely outcome of UK/EU negotiations and future business opportunities as well as advising on the mitigation of any negative impact.
Andrew spent over 13 years as a lawyer and negotiator for the UK Government, including 3 years in Brussels. He has also worked as a lawyer at the Foreign Office and was Head of International and EU Law at the Attorney General’s Office between August 2014 and January 2016.
Prior to leaving Government, Andrew was General Counsel in 10 Downing Street advising the then UK Prime Minister David Cameron between October 2014 and January 2016. This included advising the Number 10 Policy Unit on the development and application of a broad range of domestic and international policies.
Andrew Hood commented: "As we approach the crucial final stages of the EU/UK negotiations on the shape of their future trading relationship, I will be advising clients on its impact and how best to prepare both for March 2019 and the new long-term deal in the coming years. Looking further ahead, I expect to use my experience at the heart of UK policy-making to advice clients on the expected structure of the future trade deals beyond the EU."
John Cassels, who leads Fieldfisher's Brexit Taskforce and co-heads the Regulatory Group, said: "We are constantly adapting our service offering and this hire reflects that. Andrew combines superb legal and analytical skills with experience at the highest levels of UK and EU governance. He is an important addition to the firm's trade and Brexit teams."
