Bridget Collier leads Fieldfisher sponsored walk for Greater Manchester Asbestos Victim Support Group Charity

11/02/2019
A team from Fieldfisher went on a sponsored walk to the summit of Pendle Hill to raise funds for Greater Manchester Asbestos Victim Support Group.

When a team from Fieldfisher agreed to a sponsored walk in aid of the Greater Manchester Asbestos Victim Support Group I didn't expect that we would have snowy conditions and a total white out on top. On 19th January a very trusting group of my colleagues set off with me to ascend the Pendle steps to find the ancient well and the summit trig of Pendle Hill.

8 adventurers set off, (8 returned later!). Luckily for them I didn't get to tell the full history of the Pendle Witches and with the surprise snow it was more fun to start throwing snowballs. Near the summit we veered off in search of the well and everyone drank from the silver challis hidden under the cover – photo evidence provided. Apparently after Robin Goodfellow drank from this well he experienced an epiphany leading to the creation of the Quaker movement, surely this bodes well for the Manchester team this year or maybe it provided enough inspiration to get to the summit at 1,300 ft.

A typical day draws crowds to this summit but with the arctic conditions we had it all to ourselves and a fantastic view was described by me! It was enjoyable to then slip slide our way down off the other side of Pendle Hill and into the Pendle Inn for well-deserved refreshments.
