HASAG's Action Mesothelioma Day 2017

30/06/2017
Today is HASAG's Action Mesothelioma Day 2017 event in Portsmouth, and the team from Fieldfisher are there helping to increase awareness of this terrible disease and raise funds for mesothelioma research.

Dove balloons were on display in memory of those who have died due to mesothelioma. A tombola and raffle have also been held, in addition to a buffet for attendees.

Guest speakers at the event included Laurie Kazan-Allen, author of International Ban Asbestos Secretariat and Greg Deleuil, Respiratory Physician and Medical Advisor, from Perth, Australia.

Lynne Squibb from HASAG reported that the charity had raised £345,000 over the last 12 years and a massive £22,000 for today's event alone, with cheques still to be counted.

HASAG has used these donations to pay for part funding of a MesotheliomaUK nurse, a substantial donation to the Mick Knighton research fund in Newcastle and to fund travel for nurses to attend key conferences such as the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG), the International Mesothelioma Interest Group (iMig) and the National Lung Cancer Nurses' Forum.

Lynne was delighted to announce the launch of the HASAG fellowship by the June Hancock Fund. The Fund will pay for a PhD post to study mesothelioma in such a way that their funding will be matched pound for pound by the research institution where the work will be carried out.

She thanks all of the patients and their families for their support, without which none of this could be achieved.

Andrew Morgan, Fieldfisher Partner, says "This has been another day of meeting old friends and making new ones and remembering those we have lost. HASAG support mesothelioma patients in so many ways and we are happy to be supporting HASAG."
