The team took the honours having been shortlisted down to four firms from 37 submissions in the category. Other categories included Law Firm of the Year, Chambers of the Year and Commercial Team of the Year.
The Solicitors Journal Awards brings together the elite of the legal profession to recognise excellence in legal practice. The awards are judged by respected and influential specialists in their relevant area of practice, including Sir Geoffrey Nice QC and Paul Magrath, editor of The Business Law Reports.
The personal injury department at Fieldfisher has had a strong year, recovering more than £120m for victims of injury.
Several of the firm’s claims received press coverage, such as the tragic case of seven-week-old Grace Roseman, whose death was found to be as a result of a defective cot. While the civil claim continues, Fieldfisher’s work has led to an industry-wide re-examination of baby cot safety internationally and new regulations are set to be introduced.
The firm also represents victims of the Tunisian massacre pro bono in their claims to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. The firm has campaigned for the introduction of a new scheme of compensation for British victims of terrorism. Through its work, the CICA scheme has been widened to provide for British victims attacked while abroad.
Judges praised Fieldfisher for its campaign work, which demonstrated the firm "does more than simply talk about change, they are actually doing it".
