After years of negotiations, the EU institutions agreed last December on a compromise version of the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), which will replace the current Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC. The GDPR is an ambitious attempt of the EU to harmonise its data protection legal framework across the European Union and to update it to the reality of the globalised digital society in which we live in. As such, it will significantly affect all companies that are operating within or outside the EU.
