Sharing Success: The Nuttall Review of Employee Ownership

BIS has just published The Nuttall Review.  Field Fisher Waterhouse tax partner Graeme Nuttall has this morning delivered his recommendations to the Government on what is needed to drive employee BIS has just published The Nuttall Review.  Field Fisher Waterhouse tax partner Graeme Nuttall has this morning delivered his recommendations to the Government on what is needed to drive employee ownership into the mainstream of the UK economy.  The Nuttall Review sets out 28 recommendations and asks the Government to build on its unprecedented political support for employee ownership in 2012 by implementing these recommendations in full.    Graeme has taken the bold, and for some controversial, step of advocating employee ownership as a business model in its own right, where tax should be seen in its wider context.  He asks that tax is acknowledged as not the only lever to promote employee ownership.  Since Graeme's appointment as the Government's Independent Adviser on employee ownership, HM Treasury announced it will conduct an internal review of employee ownership.  The details of tax and employee ownership will therefore be dealt with through HM Treasury's review.  HM Treasury's work on employee ownership will draw on the materials used to produce The Nuttall Review, including the views of those who contributed to it and of Graeme Nuttall, and will conclude ahead of the Autumn Statement.  The Nuttall Review is available from the BIS website at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nuttall-review-of-employee-ownership
