In return for Microsoft agreeing not to appeal Justice Asplin's judgment, Sky is allowing Microsoft to temporarily continue using SKYDRIVE whilst it transitions to a new brand. No timescale was given for the continued use of SKYDRIVE, nor were the details of the financial element of the settlement revealed. Both sides have released statements that they are pleased with the outcome.

Microsoft is no stranger to a rebrand, just last year it had to rethink its use of METRO for Windows 8 following the threat of legal action from German Company Metro AG.

This seems to be an amicable end to what was a very high-profile case, which demonstrates the lengths that companies will go to to protect their all important brand.
