The Taylor Review - Good Work?

The Taylor Review has today published its much anticipated report on modern working practices.

The Taylor Review has today published its much anticipated report on modern working practices.  Over the past ten months Matthew Taylor and his review team has been engaging with key stakeholders, including businesses, employee representative bodies and the legal profession, to consider the implications of new models of working on the rights of workers and the freedoms and obligations of employers.

The Report includes a number of recommendations for specific measures.   Although the press has focussed on the recommendation for a new category of 'dependent contractor' and calls for an end to the cash-in-hand economy, the proposed changes do not necessarily offer the legal clarity regarding employment status which many sought – including those who responded to our survey.

Over the coming days, we will be providing comment on the specific recommendations including the introduction of a new category of 'dependent contractor' and additional rights for those on zero hour contracts.  So, watch this space…
