I am a lawyer in the Pensions department, providing assistance on pensions law matters to both sponsoring employers of pension schemes and their trustees, both in relation to defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes.
I advise on the administration of pension schemes, including preparing documentation, advising on the application of new and existing legislation and how to keep on the right side of the Pensions Regulator. In particular, I have experience in advising on:
- equal treatment matters within a pensions context (particularly those that have arisen as a result of the decision in Barber),
- assisting in the pensions aspects of corporate transactions,
- the interaction between pensions law and employment law issues, and
- the buy-in of pension liabilities with insurance companies.
In terms of pensions disputes, I have been heavily involved in cases where there have been problems caused by invalid amendments to pension schemes and in assisting trustees in responding to claims that have been taken to the Pensions Ombudsman.
