I am a specialist energy lawyer with over 20 years' experience advising clients on commercial transactions in the power, renewables, commodities and infrastructure sectors.
I advise domestic and international clients on M&A, project finance, structured finance and derivatives matters across the entire energy sector, with a particular focus on renewable and conventional power and their intersections with new technologies.
As a former in-house lawyer with National Power plc, I have a particular interest in conventional and renewable power generation project development and asset acquisitions/disposals.
I have established a market-leading power M&A practice and represented participants in many of the highest value transactions in the UK over the last few years.
My transactional experience includes:
- Advising a major European infrastructure investment fund on its joint venture with a well-established project developer to pursue the development of greenfield renewable energy generation projects across the UK, Ireland and France. The deal included an initial investment in three operating solar assets, together with a framework to allow for further investments in a pipeline of development and construction-stage projects sourced from third party developers, constructors and asset owners.
- Acting for a power utility company in relation to its acquisition of the Lynemouth Coal-fired power station in the UK, and its proposed conversion to biomass firing. Three years later, I was instructed by new buyers to acquire the same asset and continue the conversion project.
- Advising an IPP on its acquisition of a portfolio of biomass-fired waste to energy generation projects from Macquarie as part of a broader transaction whereby the Green Investment Bank disposed of its business in the UK in early 2018. The transaction was particularly complex and was achieved against a tight deal schedule dictated by a third party.
I have been recommended as a leading individual in Chambers and Legal 500 every year since 2015 in the fields of general energy, power and commodity derivatives.
I am a consulting editor of 'Solar Power – A Practical Handbook', published by Globe Law and Business. I also speak regularly at energy sector conferences and seminars.
