I have over 20 years' experience of advising clients on commercial transactions in the energy, commodities and infrastructure sectors.

I advise a range of clients, both domestic and international, on M&A, project finance, structured finance and derivatives matters across the entire energy sector, with a particular focus on renewable and conventional power and their intersections with new technologies.

As a former in-house lawyer with National Power plc, I have a particular interest in conventional and renewable power generation project development and asset acquisitions/disposals.

I have established a market-leading power M&A practice and represented participants in many of the highest value transactions in the UK over the last few years.

My transactional experience includes:

  • Advising a major European infrastructure investment fund on its joint venture with a well-established project developer to pursue the development of greenfield renewable energy generation projects across the UK, Ireland and France. The deal was multi-layered and included an initial investment in three operating solar assets, together with a framework to allow for further investments in a pipeline of development and construction stage projects sourced from third party developers, constructors and asset owners.
  • Acting for a power utility company in relation to its acquisition of the Lynemouth Coal-fired power station in the UK, and its proposed conversion to biomass firing. Three years later, I was instructed by new buyers to acquire the same asset and continue the conversion project. My knowledge of the asset and its operational dynamics was a key factor in securing the follow-up mandate.
  • Advising an IPP on its acquisition of a portfolio of biomass-fired waste to energy generation projects from Macquarie as part of a broader transaction whereby the Green Investment Bank disposed of its business in the UK in early 2018. The transaction was particularly complex and was achieved against a tight deal schedule dictated by a third party.

I have been recommended as a leading individual in Chambers and Legal 500 every year since 2015 in the fields of general energy, power and commodity derivatives.

I am a consulting editor of 'Solar Power – A Practical Handbook', published by Globe Law and Business. I also speak regularly at energy sector conferences and seminars.
