I have more than 25 years' experience as a lawyer in the energy sector, providing advice on renewable energy projects, thermal generation, energy storage, energy supply, transmission and distribution and energy trading.

I specialise in energy regulation and how it impacts my clients' activities in the energy sector. I advise on project development, acquisitions, commercial contracts (particularly fuel supply and offtake agreements) and structured trading agreements.

I understand how energy systems work. Being an effective lawyer means understanding the environment in which clients operate and having that understanding means I can work with my clients to manage risk in the most commercially appropriate manner.

I have experience in gas, renewables, thermal generation, nuclear, gas transmission, electricity transmission and distribution, electricity and gas supply, energy trading, renewable certificates, smart metering and smart systems.

I have worked closely with several clients developing waste to energy plants using gasification in discussions with the Low Carbon Contracts Company on the FiT CfD contract.

The FiT CfD is not ideally suited to thermal technologies and we were able to achieve an acceptable outcome for the clients and the LCCC which enabled the projects to satisfy their obligations under the FiT CfD and move forward with their projects.

I speak widely and have written many articles.  I am a contributor to Solar Power – a Practical Handbook. I provide Practice Notes for the LexisNexis energy platform and am a member of the editorial board and have spoken at the European Renewable Energy Investors Council on corporate PPAs.

In my spare time I am the dedicated human for a pair of Irish terriers who have senior management roles in the household.  Anything left over after that is spent on my ongoing attempts at Silversmithing.
