Prior to joining Fieldfisher Capital, I worked in various management capacities with Citibank over a 26 year period and was until 2016, the Corporate Bank Head for Citi’s Sub Saharan Africa business.  During the last four years and up until July 2020, I was the Group Executive for the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Business at Ecobank, a Pan African Bank.

Having started my career in 1988 with Citi’s Financial Institutions Group in New York, I moved to Pakistan in 1993 as a senior relationship manager with the Financial Institutions Group and shortly thereafter took over the responsibilities of heading up the Group and later Citibank’s regional operations of Lahore and Faisalabad.   I then moved to Nairobi, Kenya in 1999 to head up Citi’s Non-Presence Countries (NPC) Business, and the Public Sector Group in Kenya.  In 2001, I relocated the NPC Business to South Africa with added responsibilities of the Financial Institutions Group in South and East Africa. During his time with the NPC Group, I held country management responsibilities for twenty-three non-presence countries in Sub Saharan Africa including a representative office in Ghana.  In 2004, I moved to Bulgaria as the Citi Country Officer (CCO) where I was instrumental in building a Corporate Business over a two-year period.  In 2007, I moved back to South Africa as the Commercial Bank Head for Africa which was primarily responsible for covering most of top tier local corporates, Public Sector and Global Subsidiaries across the continent.  I left the firm in 2009 to join a local bank in Saudi Arabia (Samba Financial Group) as their Chief Operating Officer of the Corporate Bank.  During my two years at Samba I had multiple responsibilities, the last one of which as the General Manager and Head of Corporate Banking for the Eastern Province.  In 2011, I returned to Citi in Johannesburg as the Corporate Bank Head for their Africa operations.

At Ecobank, I was responsible for managing the CIB business which was geared for managing the large Institutional clients be it Governments, Corporates, Financial Institutions or the Public Sector.  In addition to coverage responsibilities, my area of responsibility included managing various Institutional products such as Loans, Cash Management, Trade Services, Fixed Income Currencies and Commodities (FICC), Securities, Wealth and Asset Management (SWAM), the Investment Bank and our International franchises outside of Africa.

I graduated summa cum laude from the Boston University School of Management with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in 1988.
