Fieldfisher’s associated Spanish arm, Fieldfisher JAUSAS, has boosted its regulatory team with the hire of partners in Madrid and Barcelona.

Ramón Vázquez del Rey is making the move from PwC and joins the Madrid office while Silvia Mañá arrives from Professor Joaquín Tornos’s public law boutique in Barcelona, where she was head of real estate.

Del Rey has more than twenty years’ experience advising public sector bodies and contractors in the energy and natural resources arena covering environmental law, urban planning, public procurement and administrative litigation. He combines his practice with academic duties at two leading Spanish universities and spent seven years as a partner at PwC, having also worked at Uria Menendez, Sánchez and Pintado & Núñez.

Silvia Mañá’s practice covers planning, environmental, and national and EU public procurement law. She also has academic connections to a leading Barcelona business school. Previous firms include Roca Junyent and Cuatrecasas.

They cited post-pandemic increases in client demand for advice as a reason for joining the 60-plus lawyer firm, which allied with Fieldfisher in 2018 as part of a verein.

The firm’s president, Jordi Ruiz de Villa, said the double move left it completing the financial year having added five partners in 2020, including real estate lawyer Javier Galan in April 2020 and tax partner Juan Osuna in September.

Villa said the firm would continue to take on lawyers from other firms who were keen to “develop as partners both in Barcelona and in Madrid within an international firm”.

The firm has also seen exits, with technology head Manuel Alonso joining Crowe Legal in October, although this was compensated for by the arrival of IP and TMT specialist Vanesa Alarcon’s as a partner from Avatic Abogados in Barcelona in the same month.
