European law firm Fieldfisher has hired leading competition expert, Tom Pick, as a partner in its Brussels office.

Tom, who is German qualified and joins from Belgian firm DBB, specialises in all aspects of EU and German competition law, including merger control, antitrust, state aid and compliance. He regularly represents clients on competition matters before the European courts in Luxembourg and before civil courts in Germany, as well as before European Competition Authorities.

Prior to DBB Tom was a sole practitioner, having previously worked at Hammonds – where he was made partner in 2007 – and, post-merger, with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey Boggs (now Squire Patton & Boggs).

Tom is vastly experienced in regulated sectors such as energy, chemicals, transport and tobacco products.

Claudio Mereu, joint-managing partner of Fieldfisher's Brussels office and head of the Competition, Regulatory & Trade Group, said: "Tom is a significant hire to our existing competition expertise. As a firm we're committed to increasing our strengths across Europe and this is a clear sign of our doing so."

Tom said of his move: "Fieldfisher presents an exciting opportunity for me - the firm is growing across the continent, which is precisely the set-up my international clients need, and is very well regarded as an adviser in regulated industries, which forms part of my expertise, so I am looking forward to getting started."

Fieldfisher Competition, Regulatory & Trade Group advises on the whole range of UK, French, German, Belgian, Italian and EU competition law issues, across a variety of sectors including technology, energy, telecoms, life sciences,  chemicals (REACH), pesticides, biocides, transportation and the public sector.

Tom joined Fieldfisher today, 7th November 2016.
