Corporate Livewire has named Fieldfisher partner John Worthy Lawyer of the Year 2014 in the "Space Transactions – UK" category of its annual awards. Corporate Livewire is a resource which provides business professionals and individuals with updates on the latest developments across the corporate and business community.

John- a partner in Fieldfisher's Technology, Outsourcing, and Privacy practice- is head of the Satellite and Space Projects team at the firm. The team includes lawyers with more than 20 years' experience in advising on major satellite and space projects in the UK, Europe, and worldwide.

This award caps off a busy year for the team which has acted on major, high profile space projects. Most notably, Fieldfisher is part of the mission team for the newly launched Lunar Mission One. This innovative project, which has received worldwide media coverage, is planning to send a robotic lander to the moon in 2024 in order to conduct scientific research and deposit a time capsule. The mission has taken a unique approach by funding its initial stage through crowdfunding website Kickstarter. In just a month, nearly 7,000 backers pledged more than £670,000 and ensured that the mission can progress to its next phase.

Over the past twelve months, John has also led teams advising a major satellite operator on its participation in the financing of a new satellite via US ExIm Bank, and the promotion and launch of a global satellite constellation, which will offer huge increases in communication speeds around the world. John has, further, acted for a new satellite operator on its programme for services delivering significantly improved communications links across Africa.

John commented on the award:

"I have had a very successful year leading the Satellite and Space Projects team here at Fieldfisher and am naturally delighted to receive recognition in the form of this award from Corporate LiveWire. Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the year has been our involvement in Lunar Mission One, which is probably the most exciting space project since the Apollo landings. The choice of Fieldfisher for such an important, high-profile project indicates our market-leading expertise in this area, and our reputation is reinforced further by the other significant space programmes we have undertaken this year.
