European law firm Fieldfisher will formally merge with Spanish law firm JAUSAS on Wednesday 26th September. The merger is structured as a Swiss Verein with the firm's offices in Barcelona and Madrid adopting the name Fieldfisher JAUSAS.
JAUSAS is a top 30 firm in Spain with over 90 employees including 14 partners and 60 lawyers. It is led by Managing Partner Agustín Bou and last financial year had turnover of Euro 8.5 million.
52 years after the firm’s foundation, JAUSAS has established a solid reputation both in Spain and abroad. With offices in Barcelona and Madrid and a strong international reach, JAUSAS advises a wide variety of national and international companies, which in some cases have been working with the firm for decades.
Its key practices include corporate, competition, life sciences, litigation and arbitration, tax, employment, and IP. It also has a leading restructuring and insolvency team, which advises creditors and debtors on bankruptcy and restructuring agreements and business reorganisations. The firm's corporate/commercial and M&A team also advises on investment management and private equity and includes a China desk offering specialist services to an increasing number of Chinese investors.
Michael Chissick, Managing Partner, Fieldfisher, said: "Spain has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe and is the fourth largest economy in the Eurozone. It's where an increasing number of our clients are doing business and where we have for some time been looking to establish offices in line with our strategy to be in all the major commercial centres of Europe.
"We have been working with JAUSAS for some time now so the combination of our practices felt like the right next step. We felt that the JAUSAS management and its team understood our strategy and shared our vision for growth and we were delighted when they agreed to merge with us. We have a number of complementary sector teams which will provide some exciting opportunities for both sets of clients.
"JAUSAS has a very international outlook, especially with regard to Latin America and the Far East through its China desk. This will provide exciting new business and investment opportunities for our lawyers and clients in Beijing, Shanghai and our newest office in Guangzhou."
Agustín Bou, Managing Partner at JAUSAS explained: “We share common business goals and an international vision with Fieldfisher.” He added, “when we started JAUSAS’ 2020 strategic plan, we wanted to continue to grow as a leading law firm, offering new and exciting opportunities for both our clients and our team. Fieldfisher JAUSAS is a merger that reinforces our national and international presence and adds value to our team and clients”.
The new Spanish offices bring the number of Fieldfisher offices to 24 following launches this year in Belfast, Frankfurt, Luxembourg and Guangzhou.
