European law firm Fieldfisher has advised Earlybird, a venture capital fund, on a Series A financing round of SimScale GmbH ("SimScale"). SimScale is developing and offering cloud solutions for engineering simulation software. During the Series A financing the New York based venture fund Union Square Ventures ("USV") invested as a new investor in SimScale.
Earlybird is a venture capital fund which raised five funds with EUR 700 million of capital and has made 111 investments since its foundation in 1997. USV is best known for its investments in Twitter, Tumblr and Kickstarter. Earlybird previously provided seed funding for SimScale in November 2014 and remains the shareholder with the highest investment in SimScale after the Series A round.
The Fieldfisher team was led by corporate partner Daniel Marhewka based in Munich, supported by senior associate Ulf Marhenke.
Daniel Marhewka said: "We are delighted that we had the opportunity to support Earlybird in a transaction for the first time. Venture capital is a vibrant and interesting industry and a focus of our firm. With our tech expertise and the corporate know-how we are well positioned to advice venture capital funds and companies."
