Turner and Newall - Employers' Liability Fund
We have just received notification from The T&N Asbestos Trustee Company that former employees claiming against the T&N Trust under their Employers' Liability fund will now only receive 60 pence in the pound of the compensation they should receive.
Previously former employees have received 100 pence in the pound of the compensation they received under the Employers' Liability fund. The fund was set up to help those who had contracted asbestos-related disease after coming into contact with asbestos whilst working for Turner & Newalls. The Employers' Liability fund is available to all former employees exposed to asbestos post 1 October 1969 in respect of mesothelioma, asbestos related lung cancer and pleural thickening and to all former employees exposed to asbestos post 1 January 1972 in respect of asbestosis.
Andrew Morgan, Asbestos partner with Fieldfisher says "It is depressing indeed to hear this news. There are still potential claimants out there who may contract mesothelioma over time whose lives are set to be turned upside-down and devastated by this terrible disease. It is a travesty that Turner and Newalls can only afford to pay so little compensation to those employees who gave so much to the company and might now be paying with their lives."
