Tragic victim of Hurricane Gonzalo announced after tree is toppled

A woman has been killed near Hyde Park Barracks in London after a tree was toppled by Hurricane Gonzalo, the London Evening Standard reports. The winds of the hurricane were so strong they caused a tree to fall over, which in turn caused a wall to collapse onto the victim. Sadly the woman died at the scene, but Boris Johnson has called for an inquiry into how the tree fell and how the death occurred.

Mark Bowman, Personal Injury partner with Fieldfisher , says "Such incidents are thankfully few and far between, and the immediate tendency is to put such events down to "acts of God." Hopefully those responsible for the maintenance of the tree undertook periodic reviews of its roots and trunk to ensure it remained viable and would not pose a hazard in adverse weather conditions."
