Justice Committee inquiry on Mesothelioma claims

The Justice Committee in Parliament has launched a consultation on whether to apply sections 44 and 46 of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 to Mesothelioma Claims. These sections provide that the winning party in a claim can no longer recover a success fee or After The Event insurance premium party from the other side. The Government had originally decided in December of last year to apply these sections to Mesothelioma claims with effect from July 2014 but the Justice Committee has decided to hold a short inquiry into this decision. Written evidence is invited into this inquiry until 30 April 2014.
