Compensation fund open to UK victims of sexual assault by Jeffrey Epstein – Fieldfisher instructed

Following confirmation from the US of a victims' compensation fund for people abused by former financier Jeffrey Epstein, head of personal injury Jill Greenfield confirms she has been instructed to pursue a claim to the Victims' Fund, against the Epstein Estate.

Anyone who has a legitimate allegation of being sexually abused by Epstein is eligible to be considered able to claim compensation from the scheme run in the US and funded from Epstein's former estate. The cut-off date to file a claim is March 2021.

Jill, who represents victims of sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein, supports the fund as a positive and less distressing way for victims to access compensation without having to go through the civil courts. Previously, such funds were established in the USA for victims of abuse in particular in relation to abuse in Churches.

She said: “This fund is very good news for Epstein victims both in the US and in the UK. The development of the Victims' Funds in the USA is a good lesson for us in the UK and it would be a very positive step forward if there was a move in the UK to put these funds in place in appropriate cases."

Jill said a main focus when processing any claim from the UK was to protect the confidentiality provided in the UK to victims of rape and sexual assault, which is not automatic in the US.

“Anything that eases the process for victims of sexual assault to receive financial support is extremely positive."

Any enquiry will be treated sensitively and in confidence.
