Settlement for former engineer exposed to asbestos maintaining ships

Fieldfisher recently settled a case for former marine engineer, David Davenport, who was born in Blackpool and now lives in Eastbourne. David was exposed to asbestos while working for BP Tanker Co in the late 50s to mid-60s, involved in running and maintaining all shipboard machinery including pumps and boilers. At that time, asbestos was routinely used within the confines of engine rooms, but David was never warned about the dangers, or provided with protective equipment.

After leaving BP, David quickly advanced in his career, achieving the rank of Chief Engineer at the age of 28. Unfortunately, when his first wife became ill, he had to return home and following her death, brought up his three children while working as an Engineer Surveyor for an insurance company.

Despite his mesothelioma diagnosis, David is determined to remain active, and he and his second wife, Joan, particularly enjoy travelling. He was very happy with the help and support he received, from Fieldfisher, but also from the support group HASAG.
