Settlement for asbestos worker

Rodney Nelson-Jones negotiated a settlement of £525,000 for Simon who died from pleural mesothelioma.

Around 1955 Simon was employed for a year by Versil Ltd. as a lagger's mate on the AWRE site at Aldermaston.  He mixed and swept up vast quantities of asbestos.  Over 50 years later, he contracted pleural mesothelioma from which he died.

In the meantime, Simon had become a successful company director who intended to work well into his 70s.  Rodney Nelson-Jones took over his widow's claim from the solicitor conducting it, who had herself died, and pursued Court action on her behalf.

The case was settled for £525,000 after negotiations during a round table meeting attended by the lawyers on both sides and Versil's insurers.
