Serious road traffic accident leads to brain injury for pedestrian

Mrs Patel suffered a severe brain injury after she was involved in a serious road traffic accident whilst walking near the junction of the A406 North Circular road and Chartley Avenue, Neasden, London. Mr Patel approached Jill Greenfield, Partner and brain injury expert at Fieldfisher to pursue a claim on behalf of his wife. Jill successfully secured a seven figure global settlement.

In the afternoon of Wednesday 16th January 2008 Mrs Patel was standing outside David Kings Veterinary Surgery when a vehicle, travelling at high speed, caused a concertina collision resulting in a truck mounting the pavement and hitting the wall of the veterinary practice. Unfortunately Mrs Patel was unable to get out of the way of the truck and the driver was also killed instantly in the collision.

Mrs Patel was immediately flown to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, where it was recorded she had suffered a serious head injury, liver injuries and femoral and wrist fractures. She required extensive treatment and was transferred between four different hospitals in the subsequent months (Royal London Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital, Robertson House Willesden Community Hospital and the Queen Square Institute of Neurology).

The extent of the Claimant's head injury meant that care and support at home was needed. A specialist care worker who could speak Gujarati was found and the Claimant moved into rented accommodation which was substantially larger than their previous accommodation.

The Defendants continued to deny that the Claimant required these levels of care and refused to agree to regular payments. Jill Greenfield compiled additional expert evidence and, at a round table meeting, was able to agree a seven figure global award, with the majority of the compensation being for future care and support.

Mr Patel, husband, says,

"Everything went as well as I could have imagined. I did not have to worry about any aspects of the claim. Jill looked after all the needs of my wife from start to finish. She instructed the best care managers and physiotherapists and ensured that my wife will have the best care available to her. I cannot recommend her services highly enough."
