£100,000 compensation where others said no case

Steven was 9 years old when he was knocked over by a van whilst he was on his way to school. He suffered a head injury and other orthopaedic injuries.

The suggestion by the defendant was that there was nothing that he could have done to have avoided the accident, stating that the child had run out in front of his vehicle.

Witnesses also suggested that the child may have run into the road.

Steven's family initially sought advice from other lawyers, and a barrister who advised that the chance of the case being successful was less than good and that they ought not proceed.

The family were unhappy and sought a second opinion from our personal injury team. We felt that this was a case that was worth pursuing. Once we had issued proceedings we were able to negotiate a settlement of £100,000 for the child.
