For many telco operators, energy consumption has historically been one of the most significant operating costs. The advent of 5G will lead to a multiplying effect on energy costs due to the increase in data traffic and the related infrastructure requirements.

In addition, companies in the ICT industry are under increasing pressure from investors and regulators to take action to address the climate emergency and to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

Looking across Europe, there have been several significant renewable energy PPAs signed this year in the sector. Telefonica, closed a 10 year deal with Acciona in June this year for the supply of 100GWh of renewable energy.  Likewise, Orange Group signed a five year deal for 67 GWh/year of wind power energy from the Ally-Mercoeur wind farm in the Auvergne Rhone-Alpes region, to support its corporate target of being net zero carbon by 2040.

In this webinar, Lis Blunsdon, Partner in Fieldfisher's Energy Group, will highlight some of the key aspects of corporate PPAs and whether they can help to control costs and contribute towards ESG targets including

  • Green power supply options
  • accountability/additionality/ESG
  • corporate PPA structures
  • corporate PPA pros and cons
