Children in suspected E-coli outbreak
Three young children are currently being treated for E-coli 0157 in Scotland. The nursery that they attended closed voluntarily on Tuesday. The source of the outbreak is currently unknown. However, the E-coli 0157 bacteria has been found. Three of those affected are currently suffering with kidney failure and were described as being seriously ill.
E-coli 0157 can cause renal failure, haemolytic uraemic syndrome, which can then go on to cause additional problems. Jill Greenfield acted for a young boy, who was rendered spastic quadriplegic following his exposure to E-coli 0157 on a school trip in North London.
Jill, a partner in our E Coli claims team, says:
“E-coli 0157 is thought by many simply to cause an upset stomach. That is simply not the case. In young children and in the elderly, E-coli 0157 can cause very serious problems which can have a long lasting effect. I sincerely hope that these children involved make a speedy recovery.”
