Asbestos lagging

Mr Frank Pulford was tragically diagnosed with mesothelioma in January 2016.

He had been exposed to substantial amounts of asbestos dust and fibres whilst working as a fitter's mate in the 1960s.

During his employment, laggers poured raw asbestos fibres by the bulk into buckets creating clouds of asbestos dust and Mr Pulford was in close proximity to the laggers. Mr Pulford was also regularly instructed to strip out boilers and pipework laden with damaged and dangerous asbestos lagging.

Describing some of the awful conditions he endured, he told his solicitor, Shaheen Mosquera

'The whole boiler house was full of dust and fibres, the laggers looked like bakers. I was working in extremely dirty, dusty conditions, my hair and boiler suit was full of dust.'   

Mr Pulford believed that he had suffered from one of the most extensive of exposures whilst working at a job on some local flats in Maida Vale, London. 

Mr Pulford was never warned about the dangers of asbestos by his employers, Rosser & Russell Ltd and Carrier Ross Engineering Company. His employers did not provide him with any protective equipment to avoid the dust.

Sadly, Mr Pulford's health began to deteriorate within just months of him being diagnosed. He was admitted to the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead before moving into a care home located near his brother's home in Coventry. 

Mr Pulford passed away in June 2016. His solicitor Shaheen Mosquera continued the case on the behalf of his brother, William.

Shaheen recovered a substantial settlement on behalf of the Estate and it included the recovery of over £11,000 for the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead. 

Shaheen commented "this case is a prime example of just how much care is provided by hospices and it is important to recover the hospice's costs so that the staff can continue to provide excellent care to their patients."

Mr William Pulford's comments about the service that Shaheen provided were:  "I wish to thank your company and particularly yourself for the professionalism shown throughout the proceedings.  You kept me informed every step of the way, either by telephone or letter".
