Jonathan Zimmern recovered £95,000 for June who has suffered for five years and now needs major surgery as the result of an error during keyhole surgery.
June Williams had keyhole surgery to remove her gallbladder at Epsom General Hospital on 30 March 2006. During the procedure her common hepatic duct was damaged causing a bile leak.
This injury developed into a bile duct stricture and as a result of this, June needed 11 hospital procedures to insert stents into the damaged ducts in an attempt to control the strictures. These procedures, carried out over a five year period, were not successful.
June now requires a major operation (a Roux-Y procedure) to repair the damage that was caused during the original gallbladder surgery.
The injury and ongoing treatment that June requires and continues to require as a consequence have affected her life to a great degree. She has suffered physically and mentally and this has been ongoing for almost five years.
Jonathan Zimmern pursued a claim for medical negligence against Epsom General Hospital. The hospital admitted liability.
Following negotiations with the defendant hospital, June accepted an offer of £95,000. The case was taken on a no win, no fee basis.
After the case, June said:
"I cannot describe just how sympathetic and helpful Jonathan has been. I won my claim without having to go to court and got a letter from the NHS apologising for what they had done to me.
"I would highly recommend Jonathan and Fieldfisher for such wonderful service".
