Tommy McKenna, Senior Associate, IP and Technology, Protection and Enforcement
I am an intellectual property lawyer in Fieldfisher's IP Enforcement and Litigation Group. I trained at the firm, during which time I spent six months on secondment at MTV Networks Europe.
I advise on a wide range of IP disputes in relation to patents, copyright, trade marks, passing off and domain names. Before switching to law, I graduated with a BEng in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University. Due to this technical background, much of my work is focused on patent litigation.
I advise clients across a broad spectrum of industry sectors, with recent examples including the mechanical engineering, electronics and medical device sectors. Cases that I am currently working on include acting for the defendant in relation to allegations of patent infringement relating to intra-ocular lenses, and acting for the claimant in patent revocation proceedings relating to underwater tidal turbines.
I am a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), a committee member of the society for junior IP practitioners (IPSoc) and have completed the University of Oxford Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice. I regularly present to clients on a wide variety of IP topics and frequently contribute to firm publications.
I am a keen Liverpool FC supporter and a huge fan of punk music.
