Stephen May, Senior Associate, Dispute Resolution
I am a senior associate in the dispute resolution team for Fieldfisher Birmingham. I advise across a broad range of complex commercial disputes including contractual claims, construction and engineering disputes, commercial agency and distribution, fraud and investigations, and litigation arising out of employment relationships.
I am also a member of our specialist team which handles competition law disputes.
My practice focuses on both commercial litigation and arbitration, and I represent clients in all divisions of the High Court and the Court of Appeal, as well as in the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal and in international (including LCIA and ICC) and domestic arbitrations.
I have experience of all main forms of alternative dispute resolution including mediation, adjudication and expert determination, and always endeavour to achieve my client’s objectives in a dispute through a negotiated solution.
I represent UK and international businesses across manufacturing, mining, engineering, automotive, IT, retail and healthcare sectors and have been recommended by clients in Legal 500 as “diligent, attentive and responsive”.
The majority of my cases involve a cross-border dimension, with my recent experience including a €10+ million dispute regarding the supply of plant to an infrastructure project in Central Asia, and also representing multiple subsidiary companies of a global medical equipment supplier in successfully defending a €20m LCIA arbitration claim. I am also experienced in managing enforcement proceedings in overseas jurisdictions on behalf of successful clients.
Outside of work, the majority of my time is spent looking after my young children, boxer dog and brood of chickens, with varying degrees of success.
