Edward Miller, Partner, Derivatives and Structured Finance
I'm a derivatives and structured finance lawyer, with over 15 years' experience advising on derivatives on all types of underlyings (credit, equity, commodities, etc) as well as netting, collateral and close-outs.
More recently, I have spent much of my time advising on new developments in the derivatives world, such as the central clearing of OTC derivatives, segregated collateral arrangements and other aspects of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR). I'm also active on repo transactions, including structured repos, stocklending transactions and tri-party repo and stocklending.
On the structured finance side, my work has included derivatives and liquidity facilities in structured finance transactions (securitisations, ABCP, CDOs), as well as involvement in capital protected and similar structured products.
I have been consistently recommended by the leading legal directories for derivatives and structured products, securitisation and commodities (derivatives). The 2013 Legal 500 says I have 'fantastic technical and analytical skills, and deliver brilliant results'. Chambers UK praised my 'ability to strip legal problems 'back to bare bones to explain the underlying issues''.
I am the lead author of the firm’s highly acclaimed Summary of ISDA Legal Opinions on Close-Out Netting which is widely regarded as the standard guide in the market on this topic.
Chambers UK 2015 describes me as having "excellent depth of understanding" and "gives confidence with his practical approach"
I am also Fieldfisher's training principal, responsible for overseeing the development and qualification of our trainee solicitors.
Most of my spare time seems to be taken up in spending time with my 5-year-old son. If there's any left over, I can be found cycling or getting frustrated by watching Aston Villa.
