Daniel Hayward, Senior Associate, Dispute Resolution
I am a senior associate specialising in commercial disputes, particularly those with an international or cross-border element. I have a reputation for providing sensible strategic advice to clients and identifying legal solutions that get results as quickly as possible. I am particularly well-known for my experience in relation to major disputes linked with the Russia/CIS region.
I have wide experience of acting for clients in: English High Court litigation, international arbitration, asset-tracing and enforcement actions, and in support of proceedings in other jurisdictions. I have been double ranked in the UK and Russia sections of the Chambers Global directory for the last 4 years for my CIS work and particularly for my: "expertise [in] advising international clients on Russian disputes" and being: "...extremely dedicated...". I regularly act for technology, media, retail, ENR and financial service sector clients.
I have been involved in a number of cases that have set important precedents in various jurisdictions, including in relation to the law regarding the enforcement of English court judgments abroad. I have also spent a period on secondment in the EU legal team for one of the world's biggest online retail, logistics and technology businesses managing a wide-variety of international legal projects within that role.
I am a regular speaker at Russian and CIS Arbitration Network (RCAN) events, where I am the current elected Secretary. I am also a member of the LCIA's Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) and the London Solicitors Litigation Association (LSLA). In the recent past I have contributed to: articles for New Law Journal, Commercial Dispute Resolution and Lexis Nexis in relation to CIS, enforcement and jurisdiction issues;and to the England and Wales chapter of Practical Law's Enforcement of Judgments and Arbitral Awards – Global Guide (2015).
I am a Russian speaker.
In my spare time I like cycling, cricket, and rugby (and encouraging these passions in my young son).
