Melissa Fish, Associate, Commercial IP
I am an associate in the media group.
I undertake a broad range of intellectual property and general commercial work for clients in the media and entertainment sector with a focus on development, finance, production, exploitation and acquisition of audiovisual content across all media platforms.
I have acted for independent producers on a number of productions as well as leading financiers in respect of several film finance transactions. Through progressing such projects to completion, I have collaborated with content creators, production companies, broadcasters, sales agents, financiers and distributors at both an international and domestic level.
Prior to joining the firm, I was legal counsel at a satellite channel where I developed a useful insight into the television industry and its modern demands. I have also spent time at an American producer of film and television entertainment, on secondment advising on the promotion of and advertising for upcoming releases. These experiences have allowed me to advance my understanding of the needs of in-house counsel in the media sector and how best to support them once instructed.
I have written articles for Entertainment Law Review on topics such as 'Life Story Rights in the UK' and 'Frustration in Media Asset Financing Transactions'. I have spoken on contract law issues at client seminars.
