Shelley Edwards, Director, Public Regulatory
I am a Director in the public and regulatory team.
I have 14 years' experience as an advocate, beginning my career at the Criminal Bar in New Zealand. After nearly four years prosecuting and advising on regulatory offences for local authorities, I came to Fieldfisher in 2007.
I have extensive experience of managing and conducting the investigation and preparation of regulatory cases for a number of professional regulators including the General Medical Council, the General Social Care Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
I provide advice and training on determining the merits of cases, evidential issues and case management, and regularly draft and advise on policy and strategic issues.
I am trusted by clients with highly complex and sensitive investigations, and work closely with them to identify areas of risk and to ensure compliance.
In 2009 I was seconded to the General Social Care Council as the Head of Legal Services where I advised on a variety of high profile cases and corporate issues during a period of internal restructure.
In 2011, I was seconded to develop a new role within the Nursing and Midwifery Council to identify, progress the investigation of and advise on high risk cases at the screening stage.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two children, supporting the All Blacks and wine tasting.
