I head up the Employment team based in Birmingham. I am passionate about employment law and have developed a keen interest in how it has developed over recent years.
I advise employers on all aspects of employment law, both contentious and non-contentious, and act for a diverse range of companies from many industry sectors and my work has an international focus.
I have over twenty years’ experience of employment litigation matters and am a keen advocate who regularly represents clients in employment tribunals throughout England and Wales. I have a varied caseload and extensive experience in dealing with complex litigation involving issues such as equal pay, discrimination, TUPE and collective redundancies.
I am also a qualified mediator and often advise clients on resolving disputes at mediation.
I have a keen interest in industrial relations issues and have advised on trade union recognition, industrial action and negotiations with trade unions. I work closely with our Dispute Resolution team, whether to defend injunctions brought by employees in a disciplinary context, or in relation to team moves, or employment claims issued in the Civil Courts (eg equal pay, breach of contract, enhanced redundancy pay etc).
Legal 500 in 2016 noted that I have “exceptional knowledge coupled with a pragmatic approach” and Legal 500 2015 praised my “sharp and pragmatic approach” and my ability to deliver “cost-effective solutions” to clients. I have been recognised as a leading individual for many years by Legal 500.
I regularly present both public and bespoke training to Boards, managers, HR and legal professionals, as well as to employee representatives on works councils.
I sat on the Board on the Employment Lawyers Association from 2012 to 2014.
Projects that I have worked on include:-
Defending a US pharmaceutical company and its UK subsidiary in an equal pay claim brought by a senior director and resolving the matter through mediation in the United States.
Successfully undertaking the advocacy on behalf of a German owned airline in a whistleblowing claim and successfully defending the subsequent appeal before the Employment Appeals Tribunal.
Advising a French-owned subsidiary on the exit of a senior manager and successfully resolving allegations of bribery and whistleblowing.
