Rebecca Baines, Partner, Intellectual Property, Fieldfisher

My disputes practice covers all forms of intellectual property and I have significant expertise in managing patent and trade mark disputes. My patents practice is focussed on cross-border disputes in the life sciences and electrical engineering fields involving technologies as diverse as childhood vaccines, single domain antibodies, medical devices, lighting and electron-static cleaning equipment. I also advise regularly on trade mark, copyright and design disputes for a range of industry-leading companies and have formulated and implemented a number of global IP enforcement programmes. I have also been involved in several high court cases relating to the assessment of financial remedies following a finding of patent or trade mark infringement. As well as acting for clients before the UK courts and European Patent office, I am experienced in conducting high value arbitration and mediation proceedings.

I write articles and lecture widely on patent and other IP matters. Most recently, I have spoken to companies in the life sciences sector on the impact of Brexit on IP rights and to a wide range of multinational and innovative companies in Europe, the US and China on the impending European unitary patent reforms.

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) and the American Intellectual Property Lawyers' Association (AIPLA). I sit on the British Council of Union-IP, an association of European IP practitioners which, in cooperation with a wide range of industries, makes early submissions and representations on draft IP laws and treaties with a view to shaping and harmonising IP laws for the benefit of European business.

I read law at the University of East Anglia and Keble College, Oxford.
