Olivia Baxendale, Associate, Employment and Pensions
I am an associate in the employment and pensions group. I have broad experience of contentious and non-contentious employment work. My contentious caseload includes defending Employment Tribunal claims of unfair and constructive dismissal, breach of contract, discrimination and victimisation. I have also assisted with the preparation of an employer's defence to a high profile employment tribunal claim, involving over 20 allegations of race/religious discrimination and victimisation, going back 10 years. I have also advised clients on the prospects and settlement of employment claims.
I also advise clients on a range of non-contentious issues including redundancy, TUPE, reasonable adjustments, managing employees on sickness absence, family friendly rights, confidentiality and post termination restrictions.
I advise clients across a range of sectors including retail, hotels, technology, transport, finance, education and the public sector.
I regularly write legal updates for clients and articles for our 'Employment Law' blog. I have also written on a range of employment law issues for People Management and Company Secretary's Review.
I often present at client seminars and workshops on a variety of issues as part of the employment and pensions annual training programme. I recently presented on the Coalition's changes to employment law and have taken part in a mock Employment Tribunal to provide clients with a taste of what to expect at an Employment Tribunal hearing. I often provide training to clients on topics including redundancy and equality and diversity. I have also presented at an external seminar on managing sickness absence.
In addition to English, I studied French and Spanish at university before turning to law and speak both languages.
In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, watching films, swimming and pilates.
