Louise Benski, Solicitor, Employment and Pensions

Louise Benski, Solicitor, Employment and Pensions, Fieldfisher

I am an employment law solicitor and specialise in advising clients on engaging employees, avoiding tribunal claims (and defending them if they arise!) and saving money.  I enjoy advising in a variety of sectors, including financial services, retail and technology.

When advising companies on UK employment law changes, my aim is to help their organisations become leaders in employee relations.  I have drafted and updated contracts of employment, staff handbooks and policies for a number of companies, including a luxury UK retailer and global film and television studio.

I advise clients on both disputes and technical queries which arise day-to-day in the workplace.  I have worked on a number of employment tribunal cases, for example, on unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing.  I am currently defending a client on a complex unlawful deduction from wages claim which arose from the restructuring of a commission scheme and have also assisted in defending a client in High Court data protection proceedings which stemmed from a pre-employment referencing process.

I also advise clients regularly on employee relations and issues around settlement, redundancy and leave / pay for holiday, sickness and family friendly rights.

I have spoken at: our employment department's HR Annual Planner event, on privacy in the workplace; the firm's TechKnow forum, on the TUPE implications of outsourcing; and have co-written an Employment Law Journal article, on labour exploitation in the labour market.  I also regularly write blog articles to help clients and contacts to keep up-to-date with employment law changes in the workplace.

I read law at Oxford, where I enjoyed studying employment law, before training as a solicitor at a US law firm, where I conducted due diligence on high value corporate transactions.  On qualification, before joining Fieldfisher, I practised employment law at a Nottingham law firm where I advised a range of individuals and owner-led / SME businesses, both in the corporate and charity sectors.

My previous experience at both international and regional law firms has ensured that I am well-equipped to advise clients of differing sizes and in diverse sectors.

In my spare time, I love getting outdoors, travelling abroad and capturing it all with photography.
