Jochen Beck, Of Counsel, Competition, Regulatory and Trade
I am Of Counsel at Fieldfisher, specialising in all international trade matters, working in the Competition, Regulatory and Trade practice. I advise on a broad range of international trade and regulatory issues under EU and Member State legislations, as well as the application of the WTO and other international agreements.
I have a particular focus on EU trade defence instruments, export controls and sanctions, and customs and regulatory law, where my recent assignments include: Representing EU solar glass producers in EU anti-dumping and anti-subsidy cases against China; advising on the EU, Belgian, German and UK export controls; advising on the implications of EU sanctions and embargoes, in particular against Iran, Syria, and North Korea; implementing EU-wide duty recovery programs for a multinational client leading to multi-million euro savings in customs duties; and advising on various aspects of customs law, including valuation, classification and rules of origin.
I work with clients in various industries, such as aerospace and defence, automotive, semiconductor, construction, aluminium iron and steel, consumer products, agriculture and food products, and chemicals and pharmaceutical products.
My recent Publications include: 'The EU General Court raises the bar for Council sanctions against individuals and entities' / Laurent Ruessmann, Jochen Beck (World ECR, Vol 24, p 26); 'China zeigt in der Handelspolitik Krallen' / Jochen Beck=' (Der Standard, November 2012); and 'EU Export Controls in Light of EU Sanctions and Embargoes imposed in the Middle East and Africa' / Jochen Beck et al (AJCCL, 2011/19, p.150-153).
I frequently speak at industry conferences on trade defence and export controls and am a contributor for law journals and national newspapers.
I am fluent in German and English.
Photography is one of my hobbies and I participate in exhibitions.

'Fieldfisher's new-look trade team is led by former Crowell & Moring head Laurent Ruessmann, who is supported by Jochen Beck. The team, which shows ‘excellent strategic reasoning’, has been representing the EU solar industry in parallel anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into imports of Chinese solar modules.'
