Philip Abbott, Partner, Banking
I am a partner in and head of the banking and asset finance team at Fieldfisher. I also co-lead the Finance and Financial Services Sector.
I am a finance lawyer with a broad range of transactional, advisory and restructuring experience.
On the loan transactional side, I advise lenders and borrowers on new loan transactions, principally, but not exclusively, in the real estate finance, asset management, technology and life sciences sectors.
On the advisory and restructuring side, I advise debt investors, equity investors, corporates, and other professional advisers on "problem" situations, which require creative thinking and the quick analysis of complex corporate and finance documentation in the context of company and insolvency law to find a commercially practicable solution for all parties.
I have over 20 years' experience and am ranked as a "leading individual" by both Chambers UK 2018 and the Legal 500 2017, the main UK legal directories. I have been described by these directories as being "pragmatic and commercial", leading a team that "decodes complex legal concepts into easily understandable language" and "with enormous energy and commitment on complex transactions".
Clients include German pfandbrief banks, investment banks, international banks, hedge funds, real estate funds and corporates.
I created the Fieldfisher real estate finance blog REFlections from the Riverbank, am an active member of CREFC, on the leadership committee of their Intercreditor Agreement working group and an active member of the Loan Market Association and the ULI.
