Philip Abbott, Partner, Banking
I am a partner in and head of the banking and asset finance team at Fieldfisher. I also co-lead the Finance and Financial Services Sector.
I am a versatile and experienced banking and finance partner with 20 years' experience advising lenders and borrowers on a wide range of lending transactions. I am a commercial, solutions driven lawyer, recommended for my "outstanding technical strength with exceptional commerciality" and for “enormous energy and commitment on complex transactions”- Legal 500. I am recognised as a “Leading Individual” for real estate finance by the Legal 500.
Clients that instruct me do so for my high commitment levels, strong personal oversight and for my proactive approach to driving deals forward whilst retaining a perspective on the wider commercial picture, protecting their interests but maintaining throughout a commercial, solutions driven approach.
My real estate finance clients include German pfandbrief banks, investment banks, international banks, hedge funds, real estate funds and corporate borrowers. I act on investment and development financings in the UK and overseas, operating asset transactions (hotels, care homes and self-storage deals) as well as restructurings.
In addition to real estate finance, I have broad experience acting on a wide range of loan finance transactions including acquisition finance, funds finance, lending to tech companies and receivables financings.
I created the Fieldfisher real estate finance blog REFlections from the Riverbank, am an active member of CREFC, on the leadership committee of their Intercreditor Agreement working group and an active member of the Loan Market Association and the ULI.
Outside the office I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, running, cycling and reminiscing about playing hockey.
